About Our Church

We are a Reformed church. As such, we maintain subscription to historic Reformed standards, including the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. The desire to hold fast to this Reformation heritage is reflected in our church's unofficial dictum, "By Scripture Alone, By Faith Alone, By Grace Alone, Through Christ Alone, To God Alone Be Glory". Calhoun Presbyterian became a particular congregation of the Associate Reformed Synod on October 10, 2006. Since that time, the Lord has been faithful to continue the work of the church through many who have providentially been a part of our congregation.

God has designed the Church to be an assembly of covenant families that form a worshiping community. Since the chief purpose of human life is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever (Westminster Catechism, Question 1), worship of the Triune God is the heart of the Church. Additionally, the Church exists to proclaim God's great salvation, make disciples of Christ, and faithfully teach God’s Word (Matt. 28:18-20). As God's covenant family, the Church is made up of particular covenant families who, in turn, assume the likeness of one, large family (“treating the older men as fathers... the older women as mothers,” 1 Tim. 5:1, 2). Mutual affection and hospitality are distinguishing marks of the Church, as well (1 Pet. 4:9).

We are committed to being a church that is zealous for God's worship, under the authority of Scripture, confessional and Reformed in doctrine, glad in fellowship, evangelical in our witness, and Presbyterian in our government. We also aim to be welcoming toward all those who profess Christ, brothers and sisters for whom Christ died. His great salvation unites all believers in their ambition to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Pet. 3:18). Accordingly, it is our hope that all who belong to Christ would feel at home worshiping together with our congregation.
